To creatively design and produce a contemporary, yet functional, cost effective furniture item, working within material and budget parameters in collaboration with Plantr and The Blind Institute of South Africa. Unit 1: Dual-functional furniture item: used within a living area, foyer or dining room with self-watering planter liners and with a second function of choice. A limit of three materials with elements of sustainability are to be used. Unit 2 Planter: It should hold a minimum of one self-watering plant liner. A maximum of three materials to be used. Unit 3: Decorative element should complement furniture piece. Centre-cane and caboo-cane with the structure of wire should be used.
Licht. The name originates from the concept that portrays a lightweight, sleek and contemporary look. The meaning of the Dutch word licht is light. The range represents a simplistic, light and minimalist look and feel. Other possible names in the range: verlicht. belicht. daglicht. lewenslicht. lichtelijk.
Drawing inspiration from elements in nature, ceramics and reflections, the new minimalistic furniture range will be used to enlighten a space. Yet, the units should be subtle, be in harmony and speak well to the interior. The word consist of different meanings, such as the units being light in weight, being a light to the interior (attracting people’s attention), that it is little in quantity, the units are easy on the eye with simplistic lines and minimal materials. Bamboo, cane and mild steel are used for the dual function unit while rusted corrugated sheeting are used for the planter box.
