Adaptive re-use was the driving force behind the project of redesigning the Collier Jetty in the V&A Waterfront. Innovation, creativity and sustainability were required to successfully carry out the design. The challenge was to design a journey along the jetty that houses various programs around the concept of what the historical significance of the jetty was. A fish market, restaurant, exhibition space and public ablutions was designed while maintaining the heritage values and embracing the cultural significance. The remaining crane and tower structure should be incorporate into the new design intervention.
Walking, sitting, or even just looking at the ocean, has a calming effect on anyone. The soft curls of the waves are the inspiration behind this project.
Waves transfer energy. When walking into this site, a feeling of excitement must be generated as one walks through each part of the building. The structure will be used for multiple purposes, all which will encourage people to come together and enjoy life. The amphitheater, fish market and restaurant create an opportunity for people from different cultures and different interests to separate themselves from their daily tasks and participate in the goodness of what life has to offer.
Classy tones and textures welcome you into the restaurant and rooftop bar while rough textures draw you into the fish market.
